If you have plastic downspout gutter, you should know that weather and time will damage them. You should be on the look out for any discoloration or any fading on the coating of the downspout. You do not have to worry about rust with these downspouts gutter, but they wear out, too. If you have aluminum downspout gutter, keep in mind that aluminum does last a lot longer than steel. You will put 1 screw on both sides of the downspout. For a longer one, you can give it more stability by strapping it to the side of your house. Also, if you get a lot of snow in your area, be aware that ice is a serious danger to the health of your downspout gutter. If you get ice in your downspout gutter, water will not be able to drain right. This means that the water will build up and get under the shingles on the lower part of your roof. This could cause major damage to your roof and event the interior of your home. Make sure that you inspect your downspout gutter during snow melts to make sure ice is not trapping water and keeping it from draining.

Thank you for explaining that you should inspect your downspouts every spring and fall. I've been really curious about what we need to do to make sure everything is in order with our house this spring. It's good to have this as an idea and guideline so that we can make sure that everything is in proper order, especially with getting ready for things like spring and summer showers.

Great info on downspouts. They can be a headache for sure. We do roofing repair and installation, and it is still amazing how many people we find that don’t know much about taking care of them. Thanks for the great blog!

The purpose of gutter downspout is to provide a tunnel for downpour to not splatter anywhere. But with leakage, the water will just slide through anywhere. The repairing of the leakage is done by someone who has both knowledge and skill. So do not hesitate to call you service provider.
